By Andrew Levy – Six playoff spots will be up for grabs in the final week of the season. Eight teams are still in contention, meaning two teams will just barely miss out. None of the teams will play each other in a “winner is in” elimination matchup, making for a lot of scoreboard watching amongst players, coaches and fans. One team, Orlando, doesn’t even play this week, so their hopes will truly ride on what the other teams do.

Those games that do not feature a team vying for a chance to play on still have playoff implications. So every game matters. Here is a look at each game and what’s at stake. Let the scoreboard watching begin.

Hidden:
Grand Rapids Rampage (5-10) at New Orleans VooDoo (8-7)

Saturday, June 21 at 7:00 pm ET

This is the only game where both teams are fighting for a playoff spot. But being an out of conference matchup, both teams could still conceivably get in even with a loss. Grand Rapids is currently a game ahead of Los Angeles for the final playoff spot in the American Conference. With the Rampage, it is always a question of which offense shows up: the one that averaged 79 points per game in their five wins, or the one that averaged 47.1 points per game in their 10 losses?

Like the Rampage, New Orleans also enters the weekend holding down the sixth seed. The VooDoo hold the tiebreaker over Orlando and Cleveland, but not New York. Both QB Danny Wimprine and DB Calvin Spears have been great stories all season. Both are Louisiana natives playing for their home team. They would love to have the chance to play at home in ArenaBowl XXII, but first thing’s first – they have to get in.

The bottom line: If Grand Rapids wins, they’re in. The same goes for New Orleans.
